On Mother's Day this year show your Mum that you are thinking of her. Mom's need to be appreciated all year long, but should received some extra special attention on Mother's Day. If you can not be with your Mom call her, text her, skype her and let her know you remeber her on her special day. Special care: Keep plants watered regularly and keep soil well drained. Plants in bloom need a lot of water and prefer a well-lit location out of direct sunlight. Remove the yellow anthers to prevent staining of white petals. To reflower the next season, continue to water it until foliage matures, then plant outside in late spring.
Lilies can be very toxic to cats, so please keep away from your kittys. They are not however toxic to other animals or people.
This year marks 75 Years for Bloom's Flower Shop in Albion, NY. We will be having a 75 Rose give away on 9/15/10- stop by to enter a raffle to win! Also, each design will have a faux diamond somewhere in it this year! Have fun finding it.
Did you know that the proper name for Shamrocks is Oxalis. They do not only come in Green with white flowers. This year we have other varieties as well. Red Shamrocks have pinks or white blossoms and the Iron Cross have a black center on the green leaves. They are the most delicate plant but will flower yearly with correct care.
The fact that Valentine's Day falls on Sunday this year followed by a National Holiday and Spring Break creates a special challange for us! Where as some florists would take a conservative approach, we are going "full steam ahead". Customers who come to our store expect a fully stocked and staffed store and that is what they will get again this year. In addition we will even be open on Sunday for those last minute cupids!!
This year we are trying a new approach to the Holidays. We are no longer Teleflora, but are now FTD. We thought long and hard this fall and decided to try to build our Holiday arrangements around our own creative ideas instead of wire service. We have done this for all other floral occassion and have always heard that we should do our own for all occasions. It is my 9th Thanksgiving at the Flower Shop and I am thanksful for that!!! and for all the great people I have worked with over my 9 years here. That includes both workers and customers. Even Bosses need to feel validated for all their hard work once in a while too. A perfect time to do that is on Bosses Day...and why not that is why the day was created. It is the Bosses job to work hard to assure you job security and during these economic times that is a big job for many Bosses. Be sure to applaud them for the efforts on Oct. 16th.

Each year many little dancers practice their spins, toe points and other moves in anticipation of the yearly recital... Well that time has come. In coming weeks there will be several shows by different dance companies locally. Show them how proud you are of them by bringing a little bouquet for them to show off after the show. What a perfect end to the hard work they showed all year.
